It probably shouldn't be too surprising but this really is as mossy as it's pictures. Stems completely covered, along the mid ridge of leaves (upper and under) and on some leaves extending bit into the leaves. Some of the leaves also seem a bit distorted by it.
I do agree with the comment from Andrew that the moss isn't especially scented, but I'm not sure how I feel about the usual moss scent to begin with. If you like the extreme mossy look then this plant is for you, if you're after the usual moss scent though look elsewhere.

If one wanted a dark moss rose then I think 'Nuits de Young' and 'William Lobb' are nicer roses and 'De Meaux' has a stronger scent.

Never reaching swan status, another very ugly duckling is 'Mousseux du Japon'. I adore the resinous scent from moss roses and their bristly buds and stems. But with the Japanese moss it is covered with the thickest moss overwhelming any attractiveness this rose might poses and the moss isn't even very scented. If you want a dark moss rose then grow 'William Lobb' or 'Nuits de Young' which I suspect might share some breeding. Too much of a good thing.
