'Hurdy Gurdy'. Miniature - Syns MACpluto, 'Pluto'. Bred by McGredy (NZ) and introduced in 1986, this very striking rose produces pale cream to pink flowers that are splashed and striped with burgundy around a prominent boss of stamens. The flowers come in well-spaced clusters and the repeat is good. The autumn clusters are particularly large. The foliage is dark green and disease-free and the growth is of medium height to tall (for a Mini), vigorous, healthy and very thorny. ('Matangi' x 'Stars 'n' Stripes'). Zones 6-9.

Nola Simpson. Final Analysis 1991-92
'Hurdy Gurdy' (MACpluto); McGredy 1986; 'Matangi' x 'Stars 'n Stripes'; white with blood red stripes;
20 reports on 36 bushes; 1-5 years; 77cms; 7.1 rating. A striped novelty which all reporters are not overly enthusiastic about. Very healthy, it grows in an ungainly fashion, sending up long canes in the autumn. Repeat of bloom is good but flowers do not last long, very eye catching and a good talking point. Rosarians here have not cottoned on to the stripey's yet!!!
