Fred Howard (Howard 1951): A vigorous growing plant with a fully double rich yellow bloom which occasionally is shaded pink. It has done particularly well in U.S.A., where it gained the A.A.R.S. award, while in the N.R.S. Trial Grounds in England it received a certificate for all-round quality.

Harry H. Hazlewood. The New Roses of 1954. Fred Howard HT. (F. H. Howard, 1951). Long buds opening to fully double exhibition blooms of rich yellow, sometimes shaded with pink. Growth at first was medium but it has improved very considerably and is now in the first rank. A.A.R.S. 1952 and Trial Ground Certificate N.R.S. It is a fitting memorial to a great rose man.

Fred Howard, an A.A.R.S. winner of 1952, is a promising medium yellow tipped with a penciling of carmine and opening to full bloom with long lasting qualities. Growth is reported overseas to be tall and vigorous, but has been moderate here, obviously not acclimatising so readily...
