Président Charles Hain (H.T.) lives under a multiplicity of names, to wit, Amelia Earhart, Magnum Pernet, and Madame Jules Guérin, and if size and quality justify them, deserves them all! The huge yellow flowers are very double and are borne in quantity upon vigorous plants with upright growth, but require an umbrella in wet weather. Reymond 1929. ...Vigorous growth. Moderately fragrant...June-September. Hardy.

President Charles Hain (another beauty, a deep yellow, among the big Roses, great substance and formation, wide petals, producing many champion blooms, plants will be three years old this winter; this is one of the new Roses that should become better known; it grows strongly with me and is a very healthy variety that flowers freely.

However, the honours among these Roses rests easily upon the regal head of President Charles Haine. My small daughter, who is a diligent rosarian and keeps statistical evidence of failures and the victories lost and won each season, assures me that a winning bloom of Haine holds our private record as regards the number of petals, whereof she counted eighty-five. Such a heavy head must needs be kept dry, and rain-affected flowers will not often open, while the weight, combined with rather puny wood, requires that the trees be carefully staked and tied. The pains are worth taking, for a good Haine is a Rose and a half.

Mme. Jules Guerin.- A friend of mine, writing to me from England, mentioned a Rose named President Hain in eulogistic terms. I have, as a result, been on the watch ever since for its introduction here, but so far as I know such has not occurred. In a recent issue of the English "Rose Annual" I find it stated that President Hain is synonymous with Mme. Jules Guerin. I have several plants of it, and although it has not pleased some, I intend persevering with It appears to be a full Rose of rather a deep yellow colour.
