With a goal of a no-spray rose garden, I have replaced a number of disease prone roses with a variety of the Kordes Fairy Tale roses. I have been pleased with the performance of all of them, but in my zone 5 garden, Lions Fairy Tale gets the blue ribbon (or gold star!). It is mid-October and most of my roses are starting to shut down, most of them have at least a little black spot, and many have 'naked legs'. Lion's Fairy Tale is still pumping out blooms and has clean deep green foliage all the way to the ground. What a super rose!

I recently purchased 'Shining Light'. According to Warmerdan Paeonia, the hybridizer is Onbekend. Origin is Japan, registered in 1980.

"Onbekend" in Dutch means "Unknown"

Also available at Palatine roses. This rose has been extremely healthy, disease resistant, and hardy for me. A good re-bloomer too.

Thank you for your recommendation Karen. I bought 6 bare root plants last Winter and they are doing wonderfully.. healthy, bushy and vigorous and no black spot. They have bloomed all through Spring and Summer so far. They are such easy care plants. They have just had a mid-summer prune because they threw out some long spreading canes and they are covered in buds again. My favourites.
