Have to update my ideas about this rose's vigor. Cut the roots in half last year to give the plant more air and space, and planted the other half, a hoary old dead looking root and thick old trunk in the back (east facing).
This spring that dead looking root shot up with incredible vigor, pushed out 4 flowers immediately, despite early shoots eaten by deer.
Great vigor.
The other half of the rose was cut back hard and sent up about 17 blooms on ramrod straight stems. Wow.

Color: a really pure cool lipstick red, the form is ruffled, and the fragrance is of fresh raspberries, with a bit of greenness in it.

Third year plant rewarded me with 9 beautiful, very uniformly toned 'crimson' a deep magenta toned flowers, of varying sizes (at least so far). Important to note, each one on a single stem. No fragrance whatsoever. The flowers are on the smaller smaller side compared to the big bomb peonies, but the stems are not very strong and they bow over (not to ground though!).

In my second year owning this rose. It's finally blooming in great big bunches of flat, open white flowers with golden stamens and I love it. The flowers last 2-3 days. I don't really detect a strong fragrance.

This rose is very vigorous and as it's blooming, is throwing out 2 more thick new canes. It got damaged in the last hurricane to hit the Tampa area, but in the first year I'd say it grew about 6 feet.

Why is this rose thought to be a hybrid Arvensis? I ask because if it has Ayrshire genetics, it possibly could be hardy to zone 5. Are we thinking e.g., R. arvensis x a tea rose? I don't see it being grown in the gardens column colder than 6b.

I visited A Reverence for Roses today, and found this to be an absolutely charming family business. Jan and Don welcomed me, my father and our mini poodle in their gardens and greenhouses and Jan helped me choose 2 roses with her encyclopedic knowledge.. even threw in a third she had heard good feedback from other customers about for our area. Highly recommended, a great experience :)

Thank you so much for today's visit. My wife enjoyed your enthusiasm and your adorable dog and your sweet father that enjoyed smelling the roses. You made the day for us.
