Hello fellow Rosarians. One of the joys of gardening is sharing it with others and I'm glad I get to share mine with you. I am located in Zone 7b and live on a river.
I am an advocate for organic gardening and am always looking for new ways to encourage beneficial insects and pollinators to thrive in my garden. If you are unfamiliar with organic gardening, I'm glad you stopped by to see if its right for you. My gardening tips include hardening, planting, fertilizing, mulching, pruning, defoliating, monitoring, and winterizing. I will also show you how to detect and organically treat black spot, rose dieback disease, borers, aphids, thrips, rose slugs, Japanese beetles and other pests.
Please join me as I unbox mail order roses from over 20 vendors so you can learn more about all of the online rose ordering options that are available to you, and if you follow along with us, you will see the progress of the roses through the season. To help you plan your rose orders for next season, I've defined and compared choices like grafted or own-root, bare-root or potted, with the pros and cons of each, as well as which vendors offer which rose types during which months. I've also defined and compared the 3 different rootstocks used for grafting in the US (Dr. Huey, Multiflora, and Fortuniana) and the pros and cons of each. I hope that this channel reduces any confusion you might have and helps you obtain roses that will thrive in your garden.
I conduct frequent garden tours to share my blooms with you. Most of these tours are set to peaceful classical music, but some contain my commentary or "geek talk" on the health, performance, size and hardiness of the roses, including whether the blooms endure, fade or shrink in extreme heat and humidity. My garden also contains several raised beds due to our low water table and standing water.
I wish you all the best in your gardening,
Kimberley (The Rose Geek)
