My gardening interest started when I wanted to help Mom work in her garden. She showed how to identify dandelions and pull them. I was five years old and loved that first garden, the row of lilacs along one fence, the zinnias and marigolds, jonquils and tulips, I loved them all. But Mom thought roses in Illinois were too much trouble, so of course that is the bloom I wanted most!
I have been growing roses since 1985, and have been a Rose Society member, officer and exhibitor. But what i love most is antique roses, big blowsy shrubs covered with blooms, buzzing with bees, decorating the landscape. I enjoy starting roses from cuttings, and sharing cuttings from my gardens.
