Hi, I have a saved catalog clipping about this rose, almost certainly, by the typography, from Moore/Sequoia. Could be from the 1980s. No picture.
It says:
BLUE MAGIC (ASAblue) Pointed buds open to double deep lavender flowers. Excellent color and healthy plant. 2/M

Sounds like it is a sister seedling to ‘Lavender Crystal’ (ASAlav) <1985 bred by Hitoshi Asami in Japan which Mr. Moore carried in the Sequoia Nursery in 1998. I have added the code name of ASAblue and suspect this is more correct than the ASAsblue quoted in the reference. Thanks Mina Rosemarie. I enjoy people who save things like catalogs and clippings.

The 1993 Sequoia Nursery catalog lists Blue Magic (ASAblue), with the description given above. The code "2M" means flower size 1.1.5 in, plant height 12-18 in.

Just saw this listed at Rogue Valley Roses, although it's out of stock now. I've been looking for it, so I don't think it was there before.

Does anyone know if this is more likely to be a diploid, like the original delicately-colored Hybrid Musks, or a triploid like hybrids with modern roses, or tetraploid like the Kordes Hybrid Musks starting with Eva in about 1933?

That is, does any one know what it successfully crosses with?

Or what the parent Francis E Lester is? It's after Eva...
