Tropicana is very hardy, having survived winters in our Zone 4 in western Maine.
Plant it with the grafting knob buried 4 inches below the soil surface.
The blossoms last 10 days in water or on the bush, with beautiful fragrance! A very special rose!

I did the same deep burying on my Tropicana. This variety was a favorite of mine in 120 degrees in Arizona and it does well in Alaska. I didn't expect it to come back but it has come back in zone 5 for the lasts 4 years.

My mother planted a Tropicana rose 36 years ago in Conn (zone 5). She died a year later, & my father never watered or fertilized it. Just this year (2005), after 35 years of neglect, it's been watered & fertilized for the first time, and has bushed out, giving many blossoms!
Truly an amazing rose - for hardiness, beauty and fragrance! My absolute favorite.

Winter of 03-04 one of my Tropicana's was winter killed to the ground. I was sure I had lost it along with Neon. At end of July both threw up basil breaks, which I jadedly thought were root-stock. Amazingly they both had buds and bloomed in August. Both are fully recovered this season and healthy as horses.
New Year and Pink Simplicity did the same thing a couple of weeks behind Tropicana.
Never underestimate the heart of roses.
