Comment / Question photo courtesy of Grntrz5There are small red spines up most of the stem. Old canes are gray, but rare since this has been mowed often. It suckers, but can't tell if it has longer canes that would climb.

Comment / Question photo courtesy of Grntrz5The petals fade to pale pink, the top edge curls back, but unrolled it is an oval shape. They are very fragrant. They measure 3/4 inch long x 1/2 inch wide. When fresh they looked more like the color of Patricia's Sarah van Fleet petal with the ruler. The foliage is not scented.
