The colour certainly has the same richness of some of the gallicas. But this own-root plant does not sucker like the gallicas here, and the leaves are much wider and softer than the leathery-leaved gallicas. But I do thank you for your comment. I'll attach a photo of Superb Tuscan taken just three days later.

I have 'Tuscany' and 'Reine des Violettes' almost next to each other. The leaves and slightly bronzy new shoots do look very similar. 'R des V' has wider, larger more rounded leaves although 'Tuscany' is surprisingly smooth for a gallica. Maybe 'Tuscany' is an ancestor of 'Reine des Violettes'?
