I have tried to add a garden many times over and it will not save. Can you advise what the issue is?

You should no longer have to "add" a garden listing. All registered HMF users now automatically have a "member" garden listing. Begin by clicking the MY HMF menu item in the navigation column (on the left) and then click the My Garden tab. You should be able to add to or update your garden listing anytime.
Please take a look and let us know how you make out as we have been experiencing some problems having just installed a major upgrade to our site. We are eager to track down and correct any issues still remaining. Meanwhile, we'll take a look to see the status of the Garden listing you entered.
