Taken September 8, 2009. This is not really a good rose for my Z5a, needs to have the canes laid on the ground and covered for winter which I don't do but I love it and am now letting my two plants keep a low profile and scramble through the garden. Started the two from bands several years ago, I'll let it do what it wants for now, good spring flush this year. I have seen a photo of this rose climbing high in a tree in the south and another photo of probably more than 2 plants covering the whole top of the the most beautiful deck pergola in Kentucky, equivalent from the ground to the top of the pergola, two stories,. Stunning.

Hettie's mate on the other side of the front sidewalk. I think the only reason she is blooming rather nicely now is that we had such a mild winter. Nobody but the breeder (and me) seem to be posting photos of Hettie. She's well worth adding to your collection if you've plenty of room and the inclination to be able to care for roses.

Scene of Hettie in situ this spring with other flowers and my cat Sparky. I planted 2 Hettie in the spring of 2007; they come back every year with no winter protection but I need to move them into a better site and am afraid to damage them.

I love this little rose. Taken June 2009, a good year, about 4 yrs old by then. It just languishes now, dies back to the ground in winter, am trying to save my two plants rather than start over but not sure how to do it, puts out few or no basals, maybe feed and water more regularly. Interplanted with can't remember the name of the little purple spreading flower, something common. Z5a

Hettie is a sweet little rose but she's gotten no care since I last posted. There is a vigorous clematis that suffocates her; the arbor is lost that I bought for them to climb on.

This is what mine wants to do, taken June 2009. You can see the outer canes need to be trained on arch, have six plants going. It's not a particularly good photo with the garage in the bg, but I wanted a whole plant shot. Z5a
