I was happy with this rose's first-year performance. Now it looks awful (October in CT), but I'm sure it'll be stronger next year. The fragrance is lovely and the flowers are nicely shaped. It produced a decent number of blooms. I'm looking forward to next year! Seems a little more resistant to black spot than some others.

Karin, hello, I see you grow Mlle. Claire Truffaut. I'm entranced by the photo and am wondering if you could tell me something about the rose as the helpmefind description is sparse? Is it fragrant, floriferous etc? Anything you could tell me would be great. Many thanks, Kevin of Pennsylvania, U.S.

Hello Kevin,
I got Mlle Claire Truffaut from Ashdown Roses in 2002. It is repeat flowering, fragrant and reminds a lot of Louise Odier, but with lighter coloured flowers and thicker petals. It's healthy and rather tall, but should be grown in warmer climates than mine. It does not branch very well here in Sweden, it grows mainly upwards with flowers on top. I have many bourbons in my garden, what kind of roses do you grow?

Hello Karin,
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Well, i ordered Mlle Claire Truffaut; she sounds lovely. I largely grow old garden roses and modern reproductions such as Austins. Fragrance (old rose, damask or fruit) is my primary consideration with beauty, good repeat and disease resistance being strong secondary factors... Although if something's beautfiful enough such as a gallica or an alba i will make an exception. My daughter likes the look of hybrid teas so i am putting in a bed of them for her. Bourbons are among my favorites... They have so much of what i look for in a rose. Hope you are well. Kevin.
