Astor Perry has passed away at age 81 on July 24, 2004 in Raleigh, NC
[From Peter Schneider on Roses, by Peter Schneider, p. 6-7:] In the 1960s, Astor Perry, a peanut specialist with North Carolina State University, read in a book written by an expert rosarian that an amateur could not produce a quality rose seedling. And so he tried... All of Perry's creations are hybrid teas bred with the rose exhibitor in mind... Astor Perry named almost all of his roses for towns associated with the peanut industry...
[From Modern Roses 10, p. 728:] Astor Perry, Perry Roses, Raleigh, North Carolina.
Now retired, Astor Perry spent 34 years as a professor of agronomy at North Carolina State University and over the past 37 years, he has been propagating roses on his own at home.
