Jean-Baptiste Guillot (père) (December 10, 1803 Gillonnay - April 18, 1882 Lyon) established his nursery in 1829 at La Guillotière near Lyon (today part of Lyon). The nursery propagated mainly greenhouse plants such as cactus, azalea, camelias, pelargonium. In 1834, J.-B. Guillot bought a large collection of roses from Victor Verdier and offered them in the 1834/35 season. His first recorded cultivar Lamartine, a Bourbon, appeared in 1842, the last, La Favorite, a Hybrid Perpetual in 1871.

His son Jean-Baptiste Guillot (fils) joined the nursery in 1851-1853; however, separated for private reasons and set up his own establishment. In 1870, J.-B. Guillot (père) sold his business to Joseph Schwartz and retired.
