Rosomanes et Roses au Mans, de la Renaissance à nos jours
-
-
This historical study, written by two authors, is the result of four years of research. It first presents, seen from the inside from the Sarthe and Le Mans area, the French Rosomania of the Empire and the Second Bourbon Restoration. Rich in unpublished documents whose scope goes beyond the local area of survey, this investigation sheds new light on this social and cultural phenomenon that had a lasting impact on the 19th century horticulture. Finally, the study pays a warm tribute to Jean-Pierre Vibert (II), a great rosomaniac and breeder of more than 300 varieties of roses, whose distinguished work immerses us in the magic of roses from the past.
