Damask Roses ...'Blush Damask' ..Known in culture in Sweden since the end of the 1800s....Found in numerous locations in southern and central Sweden....Description ....The classification of 'Blush Damask' is difficult. The three methods of analysis utilized by Pom do not give consistent results. According to Pom's study the nearest relatives of 'Blush Damask' are three sorts of the Gallica group, 'Amalica', 'Linnés Hammarby' and 'Häggeby'. Their similarity indices are 55,0, 54,5 respectively 54,5%. The next nearest is 'Pink Leda' in the Damask group, 'Duchesse de Rohan' in the Portland group and 'Geschwinds Nordlandrose' in the Damask group. Their similarity indices are 54,2, 52,2 respectively 48,0%.
In Pom's Split Tree 'Blush Damask' is placed as an accession to the Alba group and is well separated from both the Damask and the Gallica groups. Studies with the similarity index shoes that there is a fairly close relationship between 'Blush Damask' and the Alba roses 'Gunhild' and Great Maiden's Blush'. Their similarity indices are 45,8 and 42,9% respectively.
Pom's dendogram gives no clear indication to which rose 'Blush Damask' is closely related.
