The New Roses of 1873. Hybrid Perpetuals ...
Alexander Dickson (Dickson).—Deep rose, the outer petals shady rosy lilac; a large full flower, of the most perfect form, and very fragrant; one of the best for exhibition. The inside petals are bright, and about the same colour as Annie Wood. In form it is in the way of Comtesse de Chabrilliant, but larger in size. It was raised by Mr. Dickson, a nurseryman near Dublin.

The New Roses of 1873. Hybrid Perpetuals ...
Bessie Johnson (Curtis).—A very pretty blush white rose, with a good habit of growth, large and full, quite a ladies' flower, and very sweet. It is a sport from Abel Grand, a well-established favourite. Mrs Curtis obtained for it a first-class certificate at Kensington.

The Best Noisette Roses of 1873 ...

The New Roses of 1873. Hybrid Perpetuals ...
Claude Levet (Levet).-This is decidedly one of the best amongst the new batch for 1873 ; it is a grandly built-up flower, with great depth of petals, and is a great acquisition. It is described in the catalogues as of a velvety currant-red colour; but the best idea that can be conveyed to the reader is that it is much like a good bloom of Madame Victor Verdier; though it will be somewhat darker than that variety. This is undoubtedly one of the finest dark roses we have, and one of Levet's best productions ; it ought to be in every collection.

The Best Noisette Roses of 1873 ...
Madame Caroline Kuster (Pernet).-Habit of growth good ; flowers very fine, of an orange yellow colour, very full, the form globular; a very distinct and pleasing variety. We do not know whether it can be obtained large enough for the English exhibition table, but it has obtained a premier prize at the Lyons Exhibition.

The Best New Tea-scented Roses of 1873....
Madame Cheveret (Levet).–This rose has bloomed very freely with us in a pot immersed in the soil. It is very beautiful and distinct, quite new in character; the foliage is thick, and of a dark green colour, shining like the leaves of Ophirie. Outer petals creamy fawn, centre deep apricot, very beautiful. It appears to be a great improvement on Saffrano. When fully expanded it is four-quartered, and shows very plainly that it contains a mixture of the blood of Ophirie.

The Best New Tea-scented Roses of 1873....
Madame Denis (Gounod).—White, with sulphur-coloured centre. A beautiful sweet-scented, free-blooming rose, large and very full. This bas bloomed well with me in the open garden this summer, and made good growth. It is now in bloom (Oct. 4). It is more sulphur-coloured than Devoniensis. The form is globular.

The Best New Tea-scented Roses of 1873....
Madame Docteur Jutte (Levet).-Grenade yellow, which means a new shade of apricot yellow; the colour varies. It is large, full, and very sweet; blooms freely; the wood is short jointed, and the habit good. Said to be a seedling from Ophirie, which is a copper-coloured rose, with very beautiful shining dark green foliage.
