Kritische Übersicht der bekannten Fälle von Knospenvariation
(1907) Page(s) 406. A case in which the emergence of the climbing variety can be attributed to vegetative atavism, is the emergence of the climbing Aimée Vibert from the non-climbing, but very vigorous variety of the same name (DARWIN, An. a. Pl. I p. 406 after Curtis), this in turn was again a bud variation of Noisette repens and apparently mainly different in colour from this (see MAX SINGER. 1 , p. 76; II, p. 160, under Noisettiana repens, the only one of this name which corresponds in fragrance with Aimée Vibert). Both varieties have a peculiar musk fragrance; it seems to me not doubtful that R. moschata is one of the ancestors and that the climbing properties come from it.
