Enumeratio rosarum circa Wirceburgum
(1816) Page(s) 69-70. Rosa aciphylla R. Globose calyx tube, glabrous peduncles; oblong-lanceolate foliage, cupidate, glabrous, matching unevenly acutely serrated, upper part of petioles pubescent, almost without prickles, branches prickly. in German Spitzblättrige Rose Blooms early May as does Rosa canina Bushes 2 - 2 1/2 feet tall with prickly stem. Straight brown branches, armed with rare almost solitary curved prickles, short thick branchlets.....Five to seven yellowish green leaflets...glabrous on both sides, reticulate, transparent veins, unevenly serrated....Solitary short peduncles, 1 to 1 1/2 lines [2 to 3mm] long , often in clusters of 1-4, glabrous bracts....Petals two to three lines [4 to 6 mm] long, white, slightly redish shaded. Small globose glabrous hips. I have not seen ripe ones.
