ROSE À FLEURS DE ROSE TRÉMIÈRE DE LA CHINE. Habit: Upright shrub; no prickles, only very fine bristles. not abundant, medium green; rounded leaflets. Bloom: in clusters of 2 or 3; small size, double, cupped; small central eye; petals on the circumference reflexed. Colour: carmine-pink, paling quickly on the edges. Fragrance: moderate.

Abailard Vibert, 1845.
Habit: upright shrub; quite numerous prickles, bristles. Foliage: dark; rounded leaflets, thick and waffled. Bloom: 3 to 9 blooms per inflorescence; double, cupped; petals in quarters, reflexing when the bloom expands; small button eye. Colour: crimson, veined and flecked mauve, very bright and unusual with Gallicas. Fragrance: strong.....
A first variety, obtained by Sommesson, at Paris, was named "Abailard" and commercialized by Descemet before 1815. It was pink ("rose"); and is found in the Rosetum gallicum of Desportes in 1828... It was still in the collection of the jardin du Luxembourg towards 1852-1860. Then, in 1845...Vibert took the same name to christen a new gallica he obtained. He describes it as "medium, double, mottled pink". It is this second rose today that we now under the name "Abailard"....
