Séraphin Joseph Mottet (1861 - May 15, 1930 Paris), French horticulturist and author, iris expert and hybridizer
[From Lyon horticole, May 1930, p. 68:] Séraphin Mottet, le grand publiciste horticole français, est décédé à Paris, le 15 mai dernier, dans sa 69e année..... M. S. Mottet avait fait ses débuts dans l'Horticulture à Lyon, en 1875, chez Mme Ducher, puis au Parc de la Tête d’Or, enfin à Paris, à la maison Vilmorin. Intelligent, studieux, passionné pour les herborisations, il avait acquis de sérieuses connaissances botaniques et horticoles qui le tirent placer en 1897 à la tète du service des cultures expérimentales et des collections de la maison Vilmorin à Verrières-le-Buisson (S. et 0.).
