Jedmar, thank you for your series of photos from this garden. What is the story here? Are the roses newly planted here - or are they failing to thrive on a diet of black plastic and stony gravel?

The international rose garden in Coloma was opened in 2000, the Japanese garden in 2009 and the Chinese Garden in 2012. The roses are failing due to neglect and incorrect care. The losses are greatest in the Japanese garden.

Oh dear. It may have have happened quite quickly as Melanie Trimper concluded her visit there in 2016 (?) with the words in the Australian Rose Annual 2017 page 116: “The property is well maintained and those caring for the gardens are incredibly proud of their work”.
