Many old catalogues and magazines had poor colour reproduction, and the colours may have changed over time. This image shows the bud shape, but I hope no-one would think the colour is real.

But still, I would not be shocked to learn that a rose vendor "emphasized" a color a bit too much.

It's a 1972 catalogue. Have a look at the 1971 photo of 'Lady X' where the printing house had the same issue.
