The main bloom here looks very much like it has simply been copied from the photograph in Foster-Melliar's 1894 'Book of the Rose' (photo id125834, from 2009) Perhaps this could be the reason why the colour was so inaccurately portrayed, namely, the artist wasn't working from a live specimen.
