'Ecstasy' peony References
Website/Catalog (1937) Page(s) [3]. This Year's Cottage Gardens Introductions It is our pleasure to introduce this year five Peony seedlings originated by Mr. Abraham Nieuwenhuizen. Mr. Nieuwenhuizen was one of the leading Peony growers in the Netherlands and when he came to America, in 1921, he left many of his seedlings in the care of relatives. After joining the Cottage Gardens organization in 1928, we induced Mr. Nieuwenhuizen to bring his best seedlings over to this country for our observation and we believe that the five varieties we are introducing this year will prove of great interest to Peony Fanciers, Professional Growers, and amateur gardeners. Magazine (Sep 1935) Page(s) 6. Five New Peonies Introduced by The Cottage Gardens The following five new peonies originated by Abraham Nieuwenhuizen are being offered to the public by The Cottage Gardens Company of Lansing, Michigan. Ecstasy (Nieuwenhuizen, 1935). New. Japanese. Midseason. Pink. An exquisite Japanese peony with a double row of guard petals of the finest satiny pink with a heavy comb of short yellow petaloids, three small seed pods and pink stigmas. An ideal Japanese cut flower and a good keeper, blooming in midseason. Since the name "Ecstasy" has already been used, Ecstasy (Brethour, 1926), for a full double white peony of great beauty, it will probably be changed but the change has not been received when we go to print.
