I've just finished pruning my plant. If Sweet Fairy is without prickles, "Ellie Martin" is something different. It bites like most Polys.

How does it compare with ‘The Fairy’?

I think it's a good match for Sweet Fairy, leaving aside the issue of prickles. Slight mauve tinge, mucronate petals. Not The Fairy for the above reasons, plus mine hasn't rooted down. The Fairy behaves like a wich.

Perhaps “Ellie Martin” might not be the 1946 polyantha Sweet Fairy. The Patent for Sweet Fairy says the main stems has a few short, straight thorns with a narrow base, and no prickles nor hairs. The branches are smooth.
Leonie Kearney has said in the 2024 reference “Ellie Martin” is very prickly.
