Something is odd about this rose. We have Blue Eyes ® (floribunda, James 2004). and Ol’ Blue Eyes (floribunda, Weeks 2019) The only difference between the 2004 and the 2019 rose seems to be its growth dimensions, which have shrunk. Same colour, almost the same name, same introducer. I cannot explain the WEK code though. Then there is the breeder - which Weeks?
Well, 'Ol Blue Eyes' is Frank Sinatra. That is probably meant to be the selling argument. Since 'Eyes for You' = 'Blue Eyes' of James was placed on the market, the "Eyes" theme has been overused: Eyes on Me, Angel Eyes, Babylon Eyes, Easy on the Eyes, In Your Eyes, Persian Eyes, etc. etc. It seemed that marketing cannot think of a different name for a hybrid hulthemia!
I actually think its a bad way to go, because it legitimately does creep some people out. I don't need the garden "watching" me lmao.
Raspberry Kiss is a cute name imo. Plant is a little too big, but the name is pretty cute. And, quite honestly, the eye should be an accent and not the central thematic. Harkness had some Persian-esque names that were a bit more appropriate as well.
Honestly, (Something something) Eye is more like a code name I would use in seedling beds because its easy to write on labels and tags lol.
And for the few that don’t show much promise, perhaps one could allocate Red Eyes, slit, slanty, bad, beady, blank, bloodshot, bug, cross, jaundiced, lidded , rheumy, empty, glazed, squinty, tired, and Vacant Eyes.
