Rosa memoryae is named for Memory Elvin-Lewis, Ph.D., Professor, Washington University in St. Louis, D.Sc. (Honoris Causa) and Distinguished Alumnus, University of British Columbia, and D.Sc. (Honoris Causa), Andrews University, Michigan. Dr. Memory Elvin-Lewis has been an exceptional collaborator in numerous field trips to collect Rosa in North America and other taxa in South America. Vernacular name. Memory's rose. Discussion. Rosa memoryae is a miniature species found only in the Johnson Grasslands of Wise Co., Texas, some distance from the related R. foliolosa Nutt., which is taller with larger, white flowers. This area is considered to have a wide range of unique ecosystems, which may account for the scarcity of this species. Paratype. U.S.A.
