Your support of HelpMeFind is urgently needed. HelpMeFind, like all websites, needs funding to survive. We have set a premium-membership yearly subscription amount as low as possible to make user-community funding viable.

We are grateful to the many members who have signed up so far, but the number of premium-membership members remains too small for us to sustain the current support and development level. If you value HelpMeFind and want to see it continue we need your support too.

Yearly membership is only $2.00 per month and adds a host of additional features, and numerous planned enhancements, to take full advantage of the power and convenience of HelpMeFind. Click here to start your premium membership..

We of course also welcome donations of any amount. Click here to make a donation. Donations of $24 or more receive a thank-you gift of a 1-year premium membership.

As far as we have come, we feel HelpMeFind is still in its infancy. With your support we have so much more to accomplish.

According to registration at Stazione Sperimentale di San Remo, Karen is another Alain x Fashion cross. Unusually no date is given for either the cross or the seed sowing.

However Karin is yellow (straw-yellow shaded ochre-yellow) and the lineage given by Modern Roses 6, 1965 (Goldilocks X Fashion) looks right.

Quite right. The page for 'Tottie' got wrongly attached. Thanks.

Any idea why the crosses made by Borgatti were registered at the Stazione Sperimentale di San Remo?
Any information on Aprutina, Puritas and Valentina Borgatti?
Thank you

The registrations were made when, in 1949, the Stazione Sperimentale di San Remo was accorded the right to register plants for breeder's patents, something plant breeder's had been campaigning for since the end of the First World War. The register seems to have ceased to function in 1966, which would explain why 'Aprutina' etc. were not registered. What I ask myself is why the more prominent breeders (Aicardi, Mansuino, Cazzaniga, Giacomasso etc.) didn't use the register (Aicardi and Mansuino did once each only). Was it because they felt it was ineffective and that applying (perhaps through distributors) for US rights was more effective? Sorry again about the carelessness with 'Karen'.

I am not sure which registrations you are referring to. As far as the registration of Borgatti's roses is concerned, the dates are as follows: Ninfea - 18/11/58, Karen - 22/1/62, Tottie - 22/1/62, Saonara - 11/4/64, Su Spantu - 11/4/64, Ilaria - 11/4/64, Folletto - 21/5/65. Is that the information you wanted?
Just one note: registration dates are sometimes years after the other three material dates recorded (in most cases) - pollination date, sowing date and selection date.

Thank you for the dates: I was looking at Tottie. We only have Bred date and Introduction date, whereby the former depends on what information is available. Pollination date (bred) would be ideal, but sometimes only the introduction date or registration date is known.

Oddly this information, in my experience always required, is neither given for 'Tottie' nor for 'Karen', both registered, as you can see, on 22/1/1962.
