Bloom:
Dark purple and crimson, fuchsia / magenta reverse. Dark maroon/crimson in Spring and Fall, often redder in mid-Summer. Outer petals tend towards purple and center is more red.. Moderate, carnation, old rose, opinions vary fragrance. 25 to 50 petals. Average diameter 3.5". Medium, full (26-40 petals), cluster-flowered, in small clusters, cupped-to-flat bloom form. Prolific, blooms in flushes throughout the season. Small, pointed buds.
Habit:
Tall, arching, bushy, climbing, few or no prickles/thorns, upright. Medium, semi-glossy, dark green foliage. 3 to 7 leaflets.
Height: 4' to 7' (120 to 215cm). Width: 3' to 5' (90 to 150cm).
Growing:
USDA zone 6a and warmer. Can be used for beds and borders, cut flower, exhibition, garden, pillar, shrub or specimen. Hardy. very vigorous. flowers drop off cleanly. heat tolerant. plant in partial shade for best color. rain tolerant. Disease susceptibility: disease resistant. Spring Pruning: Remove old canes and dead or diseased wood and cut back canes that cross. In warmer climates, cut back the remaining canes by about one-third. In colder areas, you'll probably find you'll have to prune a little more than that. Remove old canes and dead or diseased wood.. Feed this rose well.
Breeder's notes:
Bloom color is often spectacular. The photos don't do it justice. It has a velvety sheen that is lost when photographed. Very easily propagated from cuttings, so that will please nurseries who adopt it into their inventory. It is also very quick to form a mature shrub from a small rooted cutting, which should appeal to the gardener.
