this is its first year so I will edit my experience as I go but so far its been great. The plant held up to spring cold snaps with ease and was the first to bloom. When it did it was a massive rich perfectly formed red with a light tea scent. The leaves are lovely and are a great value of green to competent the huge dee red flowers. The only issue I have found so far is the flowers collect rain then bend over completely and don't bounce back up. May just be a first year establishing thing so I cant judge to hard. It's quick to repeat so far and none of the flowers have been misshapen. Glad my dad jokingly convinced me to pick it up because "You can always use a red rose" this spring when I was starring at it for 10 mins and thinking.

I grew this rose eons ago, in the 1990s. I bought it as a tree rose, and the only tree rose I have ever bought. It was a gift for my friend's dad, who liked red.

The tree rose did very well, although I question the use of HTs on tree roses. Too top heavy. The foliage was always pretty, it bloomed a lot, and it was a very clear, bright dark red.

I have since bought a new clone of this rose, sans the tree part. Very few red HTs do as well in heat as this rose. Or they pink (Olympiad fades oddly). Or they are low on petals (Opening Night). Peak Performance, even with its sometimes muddled centers is a pretty good red HT. Its a lot like Ingrid Bergman.

I have since tried to figure out the lineage. If I had to guess, I would guess half of the lineage descends from the Karl Herbst line, maybe through Miss All-American Beauty, and half descends from the Red Planet line, like Precious Platinum and so on. The foliage is pretty unique, unlike most red roses.
