Origin:

Bred by Barbier Frères & Compagnie (France, before 1900).
Introduced in Australia by Arthur Yates & Co. Ltd. in 1905 as 'Paul Transon'.

Class:

Hybrid Wichurana, Rambler.

Bloom:

Light pink. (Rose carné vif). Mild, apple, tea fragrance. Average diameter 2.5". Medium, double (17-25 petals), in small clusters, flat bloom form. Spring or summer flush with scattered later bloom.

Habit:

Climbing. Glossy, dark green foliage. 5 leaflets.

Height: 10' to 15' (305 to 455cm). Width: up to 8' (up to 245cm).

Growing:

USDA zone 6b through 9b (default). Drought resistant. shade tolerant. Prune after flowering is finished.

Patents:

Patent status unknown (to HelpMeFind).

Parentage:

R. luciae × L'Idéal

Notes:

'Paul Transon' is sometimes confused with 'Paul Noël' in commerce. 'Paul Transon' is light pink, while 'Paul Noël' and François Juranville' are salmon-pink.
Paul-Emery-Michel Transon (1837- June 15, 1909 Orléans), from the Orléans nursery family of Transon, entered into a partnership with Alfred Barbier in 1872. He was Mayor of Orléans 1896-1898 and Honorary President of the Société horticole du Loiret.
