That is ground cover rose from Kordes, not from Tantau. There is no mention of Purple Rain Rose by Tantau.

Elena E, I note you are in Germany.. I wonder if you wouldn’t mind checking the Baden Baden awards for 2007. Tantau’s ‘Purple Rain’ TANpurfree was supposed to have won a silver medal that year.
Later edit - being unable to delete my post, I can now see you think Trinity’s photos are Kordes’ ‘Purple Rain’, and not Tantau’s ‘Purple Rain’.
Having the Kordes rose myself, I agree with you and so have moved Member Trinity’s photos. Trinity has not been active here for over a year.

Patricia, I asked the Tantau company about Rose Purple Rain. Here is the answer: "We don't have this variety in our range. The breeder is Kordes. Just ask there." (Susanne Rattay)

Unfortunately information given by large nursery companies do not always reflect complete facts, but are slanted by comercial considerations. Facts are:
- Tantau was awarded in 2007 a silver medal at Baden-Baden for a single red rose it called 'Purple Rain'. The breeder code for this rose was 'Tanpurfree'. You can check with Tantau whether they bred a rose called 'Tanpurfree' and which participated in the 2007 rose trials at Baden-Baden.
- Kordes introduced in 2009 a full purple rose named 'Purple Rain' (Korpurlig). 'Korpurlig' was bred in 1998.
- I think Kordes had already applied for the commercial name 'Purple Rain' before 2007 and thus had first rights.
- Tantau never commercialized 'Tanpurfree' (= 'Purple Rain') after the Baden-Baden trials. There must have been some discussions between Kordes and Tantau at the time.
- The rose in commerce today as 'Purple Rain' is the Kordes cultivar.
Unfortunately, the internet is not a great help, as more and more information is based on what the sites glean from HelpMeFind. Even Plantago, the Dutch plant index of roses in commerce, has it wrong. Purple Rain = Tanpurfree is listed as available at the nursery De Border, but when one checks the website of this nursery, it is evident that they carry Purple Rain = Korpurlig.
