Origin:
Discovered by Betsy Dening (Canada, circa 2003).
Introduced in Canada by Brentwood Bay Nurseries Ltd. in 2009 as 'Michel Trudeau Rose'.
Class:
Hybrid Rugosa.  
Bloom:
Deep pink, white streaks, silver(y) reverse.  Strong fragrance.  Average diameter 5".  Large, single to semi-double, cluster-flowered, in small clusters bloom form.  Continuous (perpetual) bloom throughout the season.  Long buds.  
Habit:
Medium, armed with thorns / prickles, upright.  Medium, matte, medium green, wrinkled (rugose) foliage.  

Height: up to 47" (up to 120cm).  Width: up to 35" (up to 90cm).
Growing:
USDA zone 2a through 9b.  Can be used for garden, hedge, landscape or shrub.  Very hardy.  vigorous.  can be grown as a shrub.  
Breeder's notes:
Description: Long pointed reddish-pink buds open to large, very fragrant, double deep pink flowers
with yellow stamens and white splashed in the centre; silvery-pink undersides. Medium sized shrub with
disease resistant, glaucous-green foliage and prickly stems. New growth has red veining and reddish stems. Spectacular plum-red Fall foliage and large red hips. Wonderful grown as a shrub, in borders or as a hedge.

Notes:
Named in memory of the youngest son of the late Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Elliot Trudeau and his ex-wife Margaret Sinclair. Michel Trudeau was killed by an avalanche in British Columbia's Kokanee Mountains on November 13/1998 at the age of 23. (Paul Olsen)
