Introduced in United States by The Uncommon Rose Historic Archive in 2004 as 'Allegra'.

Bloom:

Light pink. Strong, anise, fruity, old rose, spice, opinions vary fragrance. 75 to 125 petals. Average diameter 4". Old-fashioned, quartered bloom form. Once-blooming spring or summer.

Habit:

Rounded. Large, semi-glossy, medium green foliage.

Height: 4' to 6' (120 to 185cm). Width: 4' to 6' (120 to 185cm).

Growing:

USDA zone 4b through 10b. Can be used for beds and borders, cut flower, garden or shrub. Can be grown as a shrub. drought resistant. shade tolerant. Disease susceptibility: very disease resistant, very mildew resistant. Can be pruned to maintain a shorter habit. Needs little care; relatively disease-free and quite hardy. Prune after flowering is finished. Remove unproductive wood every third year or so. This rose blooms on old wood.

Breeder's notes:

This beautiful new Paul Barden hybrid is a rare addition to the old Gallica class. Three to four inch blooms are borne in clusters of three to five and have a lovely fragrance. 'Allegra' blooms for four to six weeks in the Spring. This rose grows to five feet tall with minimal suckering. This rose is only suitable for climate zones 9a and colder.

Notes:

This beautiful OGR style rose came out of a cross using 'Duchesse de Montebello' as a seed parent, in the hopes that some remontant offspring might result. That did not happen with this cross. However, this seedling was deemed so superior that it was kept and named for commercial introduction. Breeders should note that 'Duchesse de Montebello' is an excellent seed parent and often produces very beautiful OGR style offspring. See also: 'Marianne'.
