'Hilda Murrell ®' rose Reviews & Comments

I would like to see a blurb about the person this rose is named for, in the description. She has an entry in Wkikpedia and this is taken from there: Hilda Murrell (3 February 1906 – 23? March 1984) was a British rose grower, naturalist, diarist and campaigner against nuclear power and nuclear weapons. She was abducted and found murdered five miles from her home in Shropshire, in a case which remains controversial.

Thanks for that bumblekim. She sounds as though I would have liked her. We've added a Note on one of the reasons why the breeder named a rose after her.

Hilda Murrell is still growing strong at the E.M. Mills garden as of 6/2016.
Has one of the best and strongest rose fragrances out there.
Will post pics asap.
Coming out of a rough winter, height right now is about 4 or 5 feet.

The one growing at the Edmund Mills Rose Garden in Thornden Park, Syracuse, NY is at least as tall as I am, and I'm 6'1", so the 4' estimate seems a bit conservative. It's a monster, and appears to be completely cane-hardy.
Update, 10/12/2008: I was at the Edmund Mills yesterday. Their Hilda Murrell had the remnants of repeat bloom. I took pictures, and will upload them at some point. It wasn't a massive flush or anything, but the flowers were there. Hilda is definitely capable of repeating - and in Zone 5 no less.
