Until someone breeds "groundcover" roses which - are thornless, - don't root down (which excludes pretty well any with wichurana ancestry), - suppress weeds (which in my climate means they have to be evergreen) - and don't need deadheading (even with a golfclub) to keep them looking tolerable, I'll use groundcovers which aren't roses.
There's nothing worse than trying to weed amongst stems of "ground cover" roses that aren't actually effective enough to suppress the weeds. Interesting that two white flowered species should make a hybrid that is pink.
I like my 'Green Snake', with its' shiny foliage. I could wish for prettier flowers, but on the whole I am quite satisfied with it. Maybe it is better in cooler climates. I find it does quite well in part shade and the weeds are not to difficult to remove.
'Green Snake' for me, in shade, zone 5, does not repeat bloom. Perhaps in Canby, OR, zone 7 or 8, it might rebloom. I do like GS very much for its bright green absolutely disease proof foliage and its ground hugging growth habit.
Breeders looking to breed BS resistance into landscape roses might do worse than use GS.
