'Orange Slippers' rose Reviews & Comments

I purchased Golden Slippers from Rogue Valley Roses, and I suggest you do the same. My grandmother grew this rose when I was a kid and it was the rose that got me into roses in the first place. Maybe I'm overly sentimental about it, but I think it's a great rose. It has a very unique color, a strong, unique scent, a wispy form, and it's a fairly compact grower. I also have a soft spot for "almost lost" roses. A lot of them aren't bad, they're just overlooked in the transition to a new color fad.

Golden Slippers must be a fairly tough plant. I live in Greensboro, North Carolina, and I garden professionally. I was approached by a customer who had roses that his mother and grandmother had grown. One of these was an old 'Golden Slippers'.

It's funny that you say it must be tough by mentioning a grandmother. My grandmother had a Golden Slippers as well. It was fairly neglected, but always looked great and was covered in the fun orange/yellow blooms. It was my first encounter with garden roses as a child, and it is what really got me into roses. I've been looking for a source for this rose, but haven't found one yet. Roses Unlimited and Angel Gardens reportedly carry GS, but they're out of stock unfortunately. Fingers crossed I run across one soon.

The reason I was able to identify the 'Golden Slippers' is because I had purchased one from Roses Unlimited the year before. I saw it in their greenhouse, and I thought it was a beautiful shade of orange. Hopefully they have not lost their stock plant.
