Ca' Berta has supplied you with some lovely photographs taken, it seems from the background, at the Carla Fineschi Botanical Rose Garden. This rose is identical with one similarly labelled at the Sangerhausen Europa-Rosarium (which may well have received cuttings from Cavriglia). But is it 'Clotaria'? The excerpt from Eva Mameli-Calvino's "Le Rose Ibride Italiani" suggests it isn't. It speaks of a crimson rose. In the Stazione Sperimentale's Register there is a detailed description of this variety and again it is described as crimson. Hence the name 'Red Gruss an Coburg'. The light pink rose Ca' Berta photographed would not be crimson in any light or at any stage of its development. I would be keen to hear from anyone claiming to have a photograph of a crimson 'Clotaria' or knowing the whereabouts of one.
