The Italian "novelties" have, so far, been few in number, and until now but one has established itself as a variety for wide diffusion; perhaps the best known until recently was Francesco Ingegnoli and Garisenda, but there have been Italian hybridizers whose work deserved a wider recognition.

Je me souviens de Maximilian LODI, de Bologne, qui possédait à côté de la place Porta S.-Mammolo, un terrain de 7.000 mètres carrés où il cultivait une grande quantité de roses presque toutes de semence. Ce sont les variétés....probablement aussi Garisenda qui, avec le Comm. Francesco Ingegnoli, sont les seules variétés italiennes cataloguées par Mc. Farland dans son « Modem Roses »

Hardy Climbing Roses
Garisenda. Hybrid Wichuraiana. (Bonfiglioli, 1911.) Clear rose- pink, tinted with silvery flesh, medium sized, very double flowers, blooming in large corymbs. Plant very strong and quite healthy.
Early. A climbing form of the beautiful old Souvenir de la Malmaison, from which it is descended. Its flowers are a trifle smaller.
