Béatrix Bourbon. Cherpin, 1865. From 'Louise Odier'. The author cites information from different sources... bright carmine red... "Béatrix is the name of the beloved of Dante to whom a statue is going to be raised in Florence..." The exterior is a whitish pink. Upon opening, it takes on carmine tints deep within... "The rose propagators ... of Paris sold, this spring, an old rose named 'Gulino' ['Louis Gulino', Guillot père, 1859, Hybrid Perpetual; seedling of 'Général Jacqueminot'] as the new variety 'Béatrix'. There is all the difference between the two varieties that there is between an oak and a fir tree! The first has big wood and a big flowers; the second, a Bourbon hybrid from 'Louise Odier', has long canes completely or nearly thornless. -- The blossom, rather small than medium, opens like a Centifolia, like which it has the form and coloration."
