Registration name: Titian

Bred by Frank L. Riethmuller (1884-1965) (Australia, before 1955).
Introduced in Australia by Hazlewood Bros. Pty. Ltd. in 1955 as 'Titian'.

Floribunda, Floribunda, Cl..  

Deep pink.  Mild to strong fragrance.  Average diameter 4.5".  Large, double (17-25 petals), borne mostly solitary, cluster-flowered, in small clusters, flat, quartered, rounded bloom form.  Blooms in flushes throughout the season.  

Tall, arching, climbing, spreading, upright.  Matte, dark green, leathery foliage.  

Height: 9'10" (300cm).  Width: 6'7" (200cm).

USDA zone 4b through 9b.  Can be used for cut flower, garden, pillar or shrub.  Hardy.  vigorous.  can be trained as a climber.  

Roger Mann reports that Titian, although registered as a Floribunda, actually grows more like a shrub or a short climber, at least in Australia. According to Mann, Riethmuller himself recommnded it as a pillar rose. When Mann first saw the original plants in Frank Riethmuller's garden in Sydney in 1962, they were nearly 15 feet tall!

This rose may have been bred much earlier than its registered date. 'Titian' was possibly named after the chestnut-coloured horse Titian which was born in Australia in 1947 and racing circa 1949–1952. Refer comments.
