Final Analysis 1999-2000 'Player' (SUNplay) Schuurman 1994; 'Raspberry Ice' x 'Karen'; white overlaid with deep pink; 17 reports on 20 bushes; 1.8 metres; 7.1 rating. Large, healthy and vigorous rose with plenty of thorns. Brightly coloured blooms similar in colour to 'Raspberry Ice'. The hybrid tea blooms are on the small side, but they are pretty and last for ages when cut. The flowers come in singles and small stems. Some growers report weather damage to the blooms.

Book (1998) Page(s) 95. Nola Simpson. Review of Newer Roses for 1997-1998 Season. 'Player' (SUNplay); Schuurman 1994; 'Raspberry Ice' x 'Karen'; red and white; 2 reports on 2 bushes; 1-5 years; 2.0 metres; 7.3 (interim) rating. Just two reports this year from Paeroa and Northland, both agree it is a very strong grower with very prickly thick stems, repeat of flowers is slow, health good, colour bright and is very much like 'Raspberry Ice'.
Book (1997) Page(s) 93. Nola Simpson. Review of Newer Roses for 1996-97 Season. 'Player' (SUNplay); Schuurman 1994; 'Raspberry Ice' x 'Karen'; red and white; 4 reports on 4 bushes; 1-3 years; 2.0 metres; 7.2 (interim) rating. Just a few reports in on this 'Raspberry Ice' lookalike. It grows big and prickly, Northland thinks it is a better colour than 'Raspberry Ice', also better petal substance. It is a shy flowerer and extra vigorous grower. Wairarapa reports that it is attractive and healthy, and North Harbour says not enough blooms, some downy mildew and mites are rather fond.

p92. Nola Simpson. Review of Newer Roses for 1995-96 Season. 'Player' (SUNplay). Schuurman 1994. 'Raspberry Ice' x 'Karen'; red and white; 5 reports on 6 bushes; 1-3 years; 1.8 metres; 6.9 rating. First reports on this 'Raspberry Ice' lookalike and the general consensus is it is not as good, very tall, sparse flowering and horrendous thorns. Northland enjoys the flowers when it does so. North Harbour and Marlborough both prefer 'Raspberry ice' and from Te Awamutu she thinks both her bushes have petal fleck virus. Nelson reports few flowers, but large healthy bushes very similar to 'Raspberry Ice'.
