I received mine own root several months ago and it has no vigor; it is almost dead in spite of my best care. I live in an area with warm Summers. It may have been zapped by heat in spite of watering? Anyone else have this problem?
The parent of Louis Clements is Graham Thomas. Graham Thomas didn't do well for a person in hot Texas with clay. I suspect Graham Thomas does better in sandy/loamy soil, since the most blooms I had seen on Graham Thomas is from Columbus Rose park in Ohio (sandy soil, with high rain).
I grew orange Versigny, the parent is also Graham Thomas. Versigny didn't bloom unless there's tons of acidic rain & partial shade. I'm ordering Versigny again, and will make my soil loamy for that rose.
anyone know how Louise Clements does in Zone 7? I've found many roses cant handle our winters here- too mild for too long, then bitter cold for just long enough to shock. I love the color.
I grow it in zone 7 and it does just fine for me. I do grow it on it's own roots. But, I have never had any issues with it in the last 5 years based on weather. Except, there is a little fading of the blooms in the exetreme heat of some summers. But, I think most roses fade a little in the high 80s/ low 90s.
