Dr. A. S. Thomas ‘Fontanelle’ with better constitution and some perfume – it is still a good rose in all seasons, but where has it gone?

Dr. A. S. Thomas. ‘Fontanelle’, always a great rose for me in the spring in those years, but nearly always a week or two early, served me well at that [1933] show….

p34-2 Mr. R. T. Hamilton. If a plant produces a darker ‘Mrs. George Geary’ or‘Fontanelle’, don’t think you have a sport – you may simply have a seasonal variation.

Book  (1954)

p79-3 Editor. …to the fully double aristocrats like ‘Dame Edith Helen’, ‘Crimson Glory’ and ‘Fontanelle’.

p133-1. Otago Rose Society. ‘Diamond Jubilee’ gives promise, but so far is not up to ‘Fontanelle’ standard.
Book  (1953)

p79-3 Dr. A. S. Thomas. ‘Leontine Contenot’ has escaped adequate notice. It is a light yellow of beautiful form, free blooming and strong growing. In some ways it resembles ‘Fontanelle’ though this rose is on most occasions much darker. ‘Fontanelle’ does not do well in humid climates but in Melbourne is still one of our best half dozen yellow roses. In the spring it blooms about ten days before the main flush of roses and the colour is pale but the flowers are huge. Every bloom is perfectly formed. It seems to do best on R. canina stock.

p106-1 Editor. At present our deepest yellows are of doubtful form, while our best formed yellows are somewhat pale in colour, as, for instance, ‘Sir Henry Segrave’ and ‘Fontanelle’.

p106-1. – good form

Mr. C. A. Brown, Ivanhoe, Victoria. ‘Fontanelle’ will have to be included. A large rose with good form and fair perfume I think this is my best yellow. This rose comes pale in the springtime with some growers but favours me well in this regard.
