Origin:
Bred by Isabella Preston (Canada, 1928).
Introduced in Canada by Agriculture Canada, Ottawa, Ontario (Central Experimental Farm) in 1938 as 'Algonquin'.

Hybrid Rugosa, Shrub.  
Bloom:
Light purple, white center.  Large, single (4-8 petals), flat bloom form.  Once-blooming spring or summer.  
Habit:

Height: up to 10' (up to 305cm).  Width: up to 10' (up to 305cm).
Growing:
USDA zone 4b and warmer.  Hardy.

Notes:
The wording in Isabella Preston's 1940 and 1946 articles (see References) makes it clear that Algonquin and Mohawk are grown from open-pollinated seeds of seedlings from the cross R. rugosa x R. rubrifolia.
