At the top of his [Admiral Ward] list was the name of the greatest rosarian in the world, M. Pernet-Ducher of Lyons. From this unusual friendship came the introduction of such roses as Willowmere, named for Admiral Ward's beautiful home-place at Roslyn, Long Island. ...Later two other species were added, Raymond and Franklin, the names of the Admiral's regretted sons.

I now have to get many old sorts budded especially for me, as they are dropping out of the lists, and once lost they are hard to find again, as is the case with Madame Edmond Gillet, Franklin, G. Nabonnand, Madame C. P. Strassheim and Maman Lyly.
